The first step in creating your document template will be to assign your data source. The Publisher will accept two types of data sources: an XML file and a DAX file. In either case, you are assigning a data source that represents the same structure of the data you will be using with your document template at run time to produce your documents. Here is some helpful information to guide which type of file you will be looking for:
• | If you use the Ecrion Data Aggregation Server, you might have a data map with a ".dax" file extension. You can use this as your data source. This will use the Data Aggregation Server to gather data from a variety of sources to populate your Document Template. Please note that you can design these visual data maps either using the Data Architect or Ecrion's Data Analyst products. |
• | If you have a sample XML that represents the same XML structure that will be used at run time, you can use that sample ".xml" file to build your template. |
Usage
To complete the first step of assigning your data source, you will first need to select Data from the Side Menu. You will now see an expanded Data Dialog where you can simply select Browse to find the data source your would like to assign. Once you have selected your data source, you should be able to now see your data source displayed in the Data Dialog.

What You Can Accomplish Now
Now that you have assigned a data source, you can move ahead to set up your document template structure with Layouts and Page Sets by defining layouts and page sets.
