Barcodes

Overview: A barcode is a machine-readable representation of information (usually dark ink on a light background to create high and low reflectance which is converted to 1s and 0s). Originally, barcodes stored data in the widths and spacings of printed parallel lines, but today they also come in patterns of dots, concentric circles and text codes hidden within images. Barcodes can be read by optical scanners called barcode readers or scanned from an image by special software.

XF Designer 2013 can draw 128, 128 Raw, 128 UCC, 2 of 5, 3 of 9, Data Matrix, EAN-8, EAN-13, Planet, Postnet, UPC-A and UPC-E barcodes.

Barcodes are considered dynamic elements since they can support dynamic and conditional values.

Accessing: To insert a barcode, the Barcode button located in the Graphics group under the Insert tab must be selected.

To assign a dynamic or conditional value, the [...] button corresponding to the Value field must be selected and the Property Value dialog will be displayed.

A dynamic value can be chosen by selecting the appropriate radio button and then clicking on the expand button located at the right side of the field.

The Edit Expression dialog will be displayed and the desired dynamic value from the Data Source tree can be selected (for example: /catalog/@owner In this example the @owner field's value is "Joe Doe").
